health turnaround

Think you’re too far gone to make a change? Any health turnaround is possible; you just need the right mindset, motivation, and a sustainable plan!

Just ask Fit Father Anthony!

For years, Anthony dealt with high cholesterol and unhealthy eating habits.

He is the owner of a potato chip company, so easy access to snacks had taken its toll over the years, leaving him regularly fluctuating around the 200-210 pound mark.

Once he went over 220 and got a diagnosis that he was prediabetic, enough was finally enough.

So he joined the Fit Father Project and started his health turnaround.

Now, he’s down around 183 pounds and keeping his snacking habits under control by following the FFP nutrition principles.

He also exercises frequently with his wife, who is a member of the Fit Mother Project.

He's healthier than ever and has reversed his prediabetes and high cholesterol!

Listen to Anthony's Story on the Fit Father Project Podcast:

Health Going Off The Rails

Growing up, Anthony had always been into sports and was athletic.

“I was a soccer player in high school and dreamed of playing in the World Cup. I ran nine miles a day and played soccer four times a week. I was 175 pounds and could dunk a basketball. I wasn't a great athlete, but I was athletic.”

He started gaining weight in college after he broke his foot three times in one year and joined a fraternity, where he partied frequently and binged on unhealthy food and alcohol.

After college, he gained more weight, his cholesterol numbers grew, and before he knew it, he was prediabetic.

“My nurse practitioner sat me down and said, listen, you know, your numbers are getting worse. My HDL was 32, LDL was 91, VLDL was 39, and my total cholesterol was 159. My triglycerides were 195, and I had a cardiac risk factor of 6.1%. That should have scared me enough. Then she also informed me about my prediabetes diagnosis.”

While high cholesterol and other warnings from his doctor never bothered him, the prediabetic diagnosis really shook him.

“I was 42 at the time. And I had every ability not to have diabetes. It was on me that I was at that point. Finding out that I was prediabetic and finally having somebody telling me that I have a 6.1% risk factor for cardiac problems is not a good thing; it was a smack in the face.”

At the beginning of 2020, Anthony decided to get into shape, but life had other plans as COVID-19 struck.

Nevertheless, even the pandemic could not stop him from achieving his health and fitness goals.

Anthony had tried several weight loss and fitness programs in the past with limited success.

“I have tried Weight Watchers and DDP Yoga. I was in a cardio kickboxing class years ago, but they could only help me so much.”

He was casually scrolling through Facebook one day when he came across the Fit Father Project.

He was intrigued and dove in immediately.

Hear about Anthony’s health turnaround from a diagnosis of prediabetes and high cholesterol to the fittest he's ever been!

Anthony's Health Turnaround

Anthony knew he needed to lose weight and improve his health, but there was so much more.

“I wanted to lose 15 pounds within 30 days and look better for my wife and kids to set a better example for them and treat them the way they need to be treated.”

Right after getting into the program, he began lifting kettlebells and dumbbells, moving around, and eating healthily.

He made several positive changes just a few weeks into the program.

“A month and a half into the Fit Father Project, I lost over 30 pounds quite easily. Within 30 days, my biceps were like never before, and I looked good. By day 50, my triglyceride cholesterol came into the normal range. My family and even my nurse were so proud. My snacking was under control, my waistline was slim, and I was feeling good overall.”

Then, Anthony suffered a shoulder injury that left him unable to exercise.

So he focused on the nutrition aspect of the program and started walking after meals, bringing his weight down even more.

“So even with one arm tied against my chest, I hit my goal. My weight was 194 pounds.”

He discovered that his shoulder injury had worsened and needed periodic surgical replacements, which could only be pushed further if he could strengthen his muscles.

So, Anthony kept hustling and eventually lost over 40 pounds.

He completely transformed his health to overcome his health issues and become a fitter version of himself for his family!

So what would Anthony say to someone looking to join the Fit Father Project?

“Take a deep look inside yourself and, even more importantly, look at your kids and figure out what example you want to set because you are not just doing it for yourself, but also for the other people around you. The beginning sucks because you will sweat. You will have to change how you think about life and how you eat, sleep, and move. There were a few times when I just wanted to break at the beginning, but if you keep giving them your best, stick to the process. You are going to have real problems, but it's going to be worth it. So, just take the leap and do it.”

3 Key Takeaways From Anthony's Journey

To summarize, here are three key lessons you can learn from Anthony’s successful health and fitness journey:

Lesson 1: Life Doesn't Always Go According to Plan

Anthony was well into his health turnaround, and then his shoulder injury came.

However, he took it in stride and did not let it deter him.

There will always be hurdles and bumps in the road, but persistence and determination will get you through.

Lesson 2: Never Take Your Health for Granted

Always remember the age-old adage of ‘health is wealth.'

Your health is your most priceless possession, and looking after it is your responsibility.

Anthony neglected his health for decades until it was almost too late.

Always make health and wellness a priority. All your other goals and aspirations will fall in line when you're physically and mentally fit.

Lesson 3: Just Keep Going

Those bumps in the road we mentioned earlier, along with a thousand other excuses, will make you want to abandon your goals.

But even a little improvement is an improvement.

Go off the rails with your diet? Just get back to your healthy eating plan the next day.

Skip a workout? Get back in the gym tomorrow.

Look at Anthony; when his shoulder injury kept him from working out, he started going for walks instead, and he kept losing weight and getting in shape.

Make positive changes every day, no matter how small they may seem.

Just keep going!
