losing 200 pounds

Losing 200 pounds can seem like an unachievable feat, but it can be done, and we’ve got living proof of it!

Steve is a 54-year-old father of three who started on the Fit Father Project in 2020, just short of 400 lbs.

Since then, he’s lost nearly 200 lbs, and he’s running half marathons!

More than that, he's enjoying new energy and vitality with his daughters and has a more positive outlook on life.

And all of this came from the fact that he had the courage to just get started.

And, of course, keep at it.

You're never too old or too far gone to start losing weight — take it from Steve himself!

Listen to Steve's Story on the Fit Father Project Podcast:

Spinning Out of Control

Steve was always active, but he was still always overweight.

“For many years, I was very active. I spent time in the military, but even then, I was 240 or 260 pounds. That's still dramatically more than I should have weighed.”

Steve has also dealt with several health conditions that have slowed down his fitness.

“I've been borderline diabetic, as type 2 diabetes runs in my family. I had hernia surgery. It was three hernias that had to be fixed. So I am limited to what I can lift.”

Before he knew it, he was close to 400 pounds and was not getting along with life very well.

“I was spinning out of control to some extent and had a lot of self-doubts. I felt I could never lose weight because I'd done different things, but they hadn't worked well. I wasn't happy with how it looked, but I was resolute that I would always be over 300 pounds.”

During COVID, Steve realized that overweight people were more susceptible to complications.

That’s when he decided to do something about his weight.

Steve searched for ‘exercises for people after 50' on the Internet and found the Fit Father Project.

He immediately connected with the program and loved its structure, so he decided to sign up.

“I found one of Dr. Anthony's videos and really connected with what he was saying. It made a lot of basic sense. One of the biggest reasons this program is different is that it sets up a building block. It explained the basics, why things work the way they do in some respects, and the science behind it. So I jumped in to sign up for FF30X.”

Losing 200 Pounds

Steve was very determined and committed to the Fit Father Project, and it all started with his mission statement.

“My mission statement was about losing weight. It was about being more active with my family. My most recent mission statement is about being more healthy and continuing my health journey. It's about becoming more spiritual and being a better boss at work.”

Once Steve found his ‘why' he began setting goals.

As he achieved those goals, his health vastly improved.

“In the first month, I wanted to lose 15 pounds, but I lost 19. My blood pressure stabilized, and my blood sugar level was also fine. My doctors were going to put me under some anesthesia and wanted to make sure that there was nothing unusual with me because my resting heart rate was 84 around the time of starting the program. But it had been reduced to 54.”

Besides improved health, Steve began enjoying an improved lifestyle.

“Now I run half marathons, which could not have been possible while weighing 390 pounds. I have changed physically and mentally as I have become more positive in believing in who I am and my abilities to succeed. I feel like a more confident person and very comfortable in my skin. I am quicker in moving things and interacting.”

Steve's also delighted to be a part of the Fit Father Project Brotherhood Facebook community!

“The Brotherhood is amazing. I was surprised to find that I was an inspiration. I also was inspired by other folks. It's great to be with a group of folks with similar mindsets who want to improve their lives.”

So what would Steve say to someone looking to join the Fit Father Project?

“Don't let self-doubt stop you. Start with the basics. One of the hardest things I learned is that you can't do everything. Pick a small battle and win it. Focus on the small things and then move to the next thing. Once you get to one success, go to the next one. But start. We can all come up with reasons and excuses not to do something, but that won't do you any good.”

3 Key Takeaways From Steve's Journey

To summarize, here are three key lessons you can learn from Steve’s successful health and fitness journey:

Lesson 1: You (Yes, Even You) Can Do It!

Nothing is impossible if you put your heart and mind into it.

But you have to work for it!

Just like every other goal in your life, you need to work hard to achieve your fitness goals.

Nothing good ever comes easy, but eventually, all your hard work pays off when you look at the end result.

Lesson 2: Physical, Mental, and Spiritual Health Are Interconnected

When you feel healthy physically, your mood will also improve.

Working on your health is not limited to gaining muscle and building stamina but also enhancing your mental health.

Self-care nourishes your entire personality and aligns you physically, mentally, and spiritually.

Lesson 3: Embrace Non-Scale Victories

Steve never felt dejected on days when he didn’t see any noticeable changes on the scale.

He truly celebrated his non-scale victories as he realized that he was growing stronger every day.

Remember that your progress counts more than the data shown by the scale.

How far you’ve come and how better you’re becoming than when you started matters the most.
