losing body fat

Trying to get back in shape? Losing body fat can be difficult. Getting a six-pack can seem insurmountable.

But not impossible!

Don't believe it? Just look at Fit Father Suresh, he went from taking medication for diabetes to having six-pack abs — at age 58!

With the help of the Fit Father Project, Suresh was able to make the kind of transformation that he had been trying to do for many years.

Many of you will relate to his story!

Traveling for work, making poor choices when eating out, and skipping workouts.

Suresh would get to the New Year and try a new health kick to get in shape, only to fall back into old habits within a couple of months.

Suresh’s journey with us led him to begin losing body fat, going from 24% body fat to 8.5% in 8 months!

And he has maintained his incredible lean physique using the FFP principles, which have now become second nature.

Listen to Suresh's Story on the Fit Father Project Podcast:

Losing Weight, But Not Fat

Suresh's journey is all about determination and the desire to get fit.

When he started, he had a clear goal in mind — he wanted a six-pack.

It's something he had tried before, but not whole-heartedly.

He would start a fitness regime every new year but would never sustain it for more than a couple of months.

“I used to start very vigorously, and it would only last for a month or two. I'd be very focused and then disappear. I used to try a new program every year, but I could never sustain myself to take it further along to complete my goal.”

At one point, Suresh suffered from pancreatitis, an inflammation of the pancreas, which was a turning point for him from a health perspective.

“Whatever I did, I could never bring down my fat level, so it was consistently high after pancreatitis hit me. Then one time, I was seriously ill for almost a year.”

The repeated bouts of pancreatitis left him worried, and he had no idea what was triggering the condition.

“I used to fall sick, my pancreas used to get irritated, and then I used to go and get myself hospitalized.”

Even though Suresh lost about 50 pounds after repeated bouts of pancreatitis, his fat level was not reducing.

Amid all these tensions, he lost his job during the 2008-2009 recession.

He had to move his family from one city to another to find a new job.

However, problems didn't seem to end for him.

“After moving to another city again, I lost my job. So again, I had to take up a traveling job. So during that process, my health was hit tremendously. I was traveling for almost five years. I used to travel and eat out almost seven days a week.”

He also developed diabetes during that period. His diet was inconsistent, and he couldn't work out regularly.

Suresh's frustration for not being able to follow a regular workout regime pushed him to join the Fit Father Project.

“I used to consistently watch your YouTube videos and take good notes on whatever information you provided. I told my wife this time, I'm going to be serious. Seriously, you're going to see; I will get my six-pack abs.”

The Journey to Better Health — and a Six-Pack!

Suresh not only dedicatedly followed the Fit Father Project's meal plan, but he also worked out regularly and consistently.

And he had great support from his wife, a fitness enthusiast and nutritionist, who helped him prepare the FFP recipes and stay on track.

Suresh appreciated the straightforward nature of the Fit Father Project and the facts that he could work out anytime, at his convenience, and that the nutrition plan could be customized per his food preferences (vegetarian and vegan).

“Whatever I was interested in, it was all available. I discovered lots of different workouts and food choices.”

Previously, even after working out regularly and putting in his best efforts, Suresh's body fat was not reducing.

“Last time, it took almost 2 years to move from 24% to 18%. So this time, I was ready to hit it hard to make sure my body fat came down.”

After about eight months on the Fit Father Project, he reduced his body fat from 24% to 8.5% and shed 28 pounds.

“Every friend used to ask me what happened? Where's your bulging tummy? Is the beer belly gone? So I felt perfect.”

Per Suresh, the secret to his weight loss and body fat reduction is the 80/20 formula — 80% nutrition and 20% workout.

The nutrition and workout plans suggested by the Fit Father Project team helped him build a healthy diet and workout regime.

“I started my morning with my breakfast shake. I was pretty consistent. The number of breakfast shakes that were listed on the nutrition document provided by the Fit Father Project program was amazing. I have tried every shake out there.”

Before this, Suresh had “anything and everything” for breakfast.

“I used to have donuts with coffee. Sometimes I skipped breakfast if I was on the go. Or I'd grab something from a fast food restaurant or Starbucks and go.”

After losing body fat and achieving his weight loss goals, Suresh transitioned to the Old School Muscle (OSM) program.

“My strength has increased tremendously. I've noticed that during the workouts I used to do before, even smaller weights seemed heavy. Now, I can easily do 35 pounds on renegade rows.”

Even though Suresh was always self-motivated, the Fit Father Project Brotherhood (an online community for all Fit Father Project members) played a significant role in his health and fitness journey.

“You know, I would post, and people would comment on them or provide key recommendations. I always enjoyed interacting with the brothers; they always gave feedback. I used to love getting feedback and see what tweaks I could make.”

According to Suresh, the brotherhood aspect he experienced in the Fit Father Project program is missing in other fitness programs.

“So, we got each other's backs. When someone is down, we always keep posting encouraging words and stuff like that. So that's something you need as a community, right? We are all human beings. There are a lot of situations everyone is going through. The pandemic had a tremendous impact on many people, but at the same time, we got each other's back by supporting each other and then helping them, passing on good words and encouragement.”

So what would Suresh say to someone looking to join the Fit Father Project?

“Commit to yourself. It has to do with something deep inside you, like your integrity. When you say something's important, you activate a power deep inside you, a motivational reservoir to move forward. The Fit Father Project program provides an immersive experience. You're changing everything. You're writing a mission statement. You're changing your nutrition. You are trying more effective types of exercises. More people are supporting you.”

3 Key Takeaways From Suresh's Journey

To summarize, here are three key lessons you can learn from Suresh’s successful health and fitness journey:

Lesson 1: Age Is Just a Number

After looking at Suresh's health and fitness journey, it's clear that there's no “right age” to get fit.

Getting strong and exercising is not only a young man's game.

It's never too late to get in shape and reap the health benefits of physical fitness.

Lesson 2: Proper Hydration Is a Significant Aspect of Staying Healthy and Fit

Getting enough water every day is essential for your health.

Drinking water can prevent dehydration, flush out harmful toxins from the body, and lubricate joints and tissues to support your workouts.

Lesson 3: The Toughest Part of a Fitness Journey Is Having the Right Mindset

The most important aspect of getting healthy and fit is setting your mindset.

It is crucial to make up your mind and decide on your goal.

Suresh's transformation was an outcome of clear-cut consistency and dedication!
