masculinity

Episode 193 of the Fit Father Project Podcast is a deep dive into the changing landscape of masculinity and the challenges men face today.

In this episode, you’ll meet Traver Boehm, the founder of the UNcivilized Men’s Movement, author of Man UNcivilized, host of the UNcivilized Podcast, and a two-time TEDx speaker.

Traver’s goal is to end the suffering in men — to end the suffering caused by men. He is dedicated to understanding how men think, what’s behind their behavior, and, most importantly, their unique challenges in the modern landscape.

In 2016, after losing a pregnancy, his marriage, and his business partnership all within weeks of each other, he created a radical year-long social experiment to answer the question, “Who am I as a man?”

During that year, he lived alone in a pitch-black room for a month, sat among men nearing the end of their lives in hospice, and called all of his exes to ask where he was deficient as a man.

It was also when he realized that he might be able to help other men answer the question for themselves, “Who am I as a man?”

Drawing upon an eclectic background ranging from professional bodyguard and mixed martial arts to a Master’s Degree in Traditional Chinese Medicine and meditation, he’s helped men all over the world become UNcivilized as they wake up to the power of their hearts, the brilliance of their bodies, and the wisdom of their souls so they can blaze their own path. He does this through one-on-one coaching with men or women, couples coaching, and group mentorship.

If you want to take risks and live boldly to create a fulfilling and meaningful life, you've got to listen to this episode!

Key Takeaways:

  • Grounded masculinity involves being physically strong, emotionally present, and having a sense of purpose.
  • Men have core needs, including the need to feel seen, heard, and celebrated, as well as the need for a purpose beyond family.
  • The concept of toxic masculinity oversimplifies the issues men face and can be harmful.
  • Men should strive to be authentic and express themselves rather than conform to societal expectations.
  • Integrity is crucial for men, aligning thoughts, words, and actions, leading to confidence and purpose.
  • Fitness plays a significant role in masculinity, providing strength, capability, and safety.
  • Meditation and presence are essential for men to cultivate self-awareness, improve relationships, and navigate the challenges of modern technology.
