positive change

Ready to make a positive change in your life? All is not lost, and there's always time to turn things around!

Take Fit Father Christopher, for example.

He went from poor sleep, headaches, and high blood pressure to good health, high energy, and a 6-pack physique!

Christopher’s success came after 10 years of very little exercise and personal feelings of shame, embarrassment, and depression.

Christopher felt old before his time, at just 45 years of age, but vowed to take charge of his life and make a positive change for himself and his family.

Having been diagnosed with high blood pressure and with the suggestion of medications to manage it, Christopher knew it was time to get started.

Christopher’s health and fitness journey is all about becoming not just physically but also mentally stronger.

It’s about fighting the inner demons and emerging tougher than ever.

It’s about positive changes and inspiration.

Listen to Christopher's Story on the Fit Father Project Podcast:

Trying To Get and Stay Healthy, But Life Had Other Plans

Christopher was athletic in high school; however, after joining college, he started leading a sedentary lifestyle and ended up gaining weight.

“I just got bigger and bigger and bigger.”

At 25, when Christopher decided to get healthy again, his first wife was diagnosed with a heart condition.

She was allowed to exercise; however, Christopher could never imagine what life had in store for him.

“We were actually in our living room exercising one afternoon, and she collapsed and died. I was 25. She was 27.”

After the untimely death of his first wife, Christopher did not exercise for almost a decade.

Each time he thought about exercising, he had flashbacks of the sad day.

“Every time I thought about exercising, I pictured her collapsing, and it was an emotional thing.”

Life went on, and Christopher remarried.

He had kids and got busy with work.

He stopped exercising and gained more weight.

Eventually, he went back to the gym and lost about 100 pounds.

He was getting fitter and healthier, but it became challenging for him to maintain the weight and gym schedule.

“I lost about 100 pounds. I was up to 285 pounds, and I lost all of it. I got all the way down to 180. But it was tough to maintain. It was a program that worked, but it was really hard to fit it into my life. It was six days in the gym. Also, I injured my shoulder, and everything hurt. I couldn't do anything. I quit. I gained almost all the weight back.”

In 2019, during an annual checkup, Christopher was diagnosed with hypertension.

He was having trouble sleeping, and regular headaches became a blockade in his life.

“My nurse practitioner told me that I really needed to do something about my weight. We also started talking about blood pressure medication.”

While Christopher was getting a reality check about his increasing weight and health issues, his elder son was preparing to leave for boot camp.

Out of a sense of purpose, he wanted to serve in the Marine Corps.

His son’s decision moved Christopher, and that’s when he started introspecting.

“My son’s enduring quest for a higher purpose than himself made me feel like I should do something. I was at a place where I wouldn't look at myself in the mirror. I was embarrassed of who I was. I was depressed. I was low on energy. I just felt like a hamster in a wheel.”

See how Christopher was able to take charge of his life by breaking the cycle of unhealthy habits and never giving up!

Making a Positive Change — For Life

After days of introspection, Christopher was ready to start his health and fitness journey yet again, but he was looking for something different this time.

That's when he found the Fit Father Project.

Christopher followed the recommended workouts and meal plans for a week and lost four pounds.

“Incrementally, I saw the changes in me, and I began to believe more and more. Honestly, I was like, who is this guy I have uncovered from all these layers of fat?”

After his initial weight loss, Christopher took everything as a challenge and kept going.

According to Christopher, the Fit Father Project program’s workouts were hard at times; however, changing how he lived his life was even more challenging.

“Changing the way I do life and the way I deal with stress was challenging. The way I started to recognize patterns and behaviors I had … I would treat stress or emotion with eating to reward myself and get that dopamine. It’s this vicious cycle that I had to break out of. I wanted to be different, and the Fit Father Project allowed me to breathe, and dig into who I am and want to be. Once I started dealing with those demons, the program became easy and motivating.”

Even when Christopher’s gym was closed during the COVID-19 lockdown, he kept going.

“I did not want to give up. I wanted so badly to be different that I refused to give up. Therefore, the changes just kept coming. In about eight months, I got down to where I was seeing the abs and all of that, and I thought, wow. It was amazing because I felt so good about myself.”

Christopher also improved his energy levels.

During the lockdown, when he was working from home and his son’s school was closed, he decided to build a deck, something he had never done before in his life.

But father and son worked together and built a 500-square-foot deck.

Christopher explains how he transformed everything else around him, as well.

I would get up and do my workouts. Then I would go and work outside all day long. I would never have done that before. So I started doing more stuff around the house, all this home improvement and DIY stuff. One thing led to another, and I just transformed everything around me.”

Christopher excitedly shares the reaction of his nurse practitioner when he went for his next checkup.

“She came in, and she looked at me and said, what did you do? She was just blown away.”

Also, his blood pressure was back to normal, and all his lab reports were fine.

“I was at no risk of diabetes. Cholesterol was just where they wanted it. I actually told my nurse practitioner about the Fit Father Project, and she wrote it down on her pad. She said she would tell her husband about it. It was so awesome!”

What Christopher loved most about the Fit Father Project was that new aspects were introduced slowly and steadily, one step at a time.

I enjoyed that you slowly worked in new aspects. In the first month, we made changes, which was a lot, but it was not crazy. Then in the next month, you introduced a new idea, just a little extra in the diet to help keep the weight from plateauing. And then, in the third month, we tried some carb cycling. And I liked that because it eases you into doing something you haven’t done.”

After losing almost 85 pounds in eight months, Christopher does not wish to look back.

“I want to be that guy whom people look at 60 and say, holy cow, there's no way he's 60.”

He believes that it’s totally possible with the Fit Father Project by his side.

He has also inspired his wife to undertake the fitness journey. She changed her diet and lost 20 pounds.

He also plans to become a certified trainer to help people get healthier and fitter like him, at any age.

So what would Christopher say to someone looking to join the Fit Father Project?

“You can do it. You may not believe it, but if you pull that trigger, you'll be surprised. Be ready, be prepared to wrestle with those demons. It isn’t your body. It isn't your diet. It isn’t about going to the gym. It is about changing your habits and lifestyle to get fitter and healthier. If you're prepared to do a mental workout along with a physical workout and a change in nutrition, you will be amazed at where your body goes and how your health improves. You will be amazed at how your life changes because of the change in your own perspective of life.”

3 Key Takeaways From Christopher's Journey

To summarize, here are three key lessons you can learn from Christopher’s successful health and fitness journey:

Lesson 1: Deal With Your Inner Demons and Success Will Come Your Way

Your inner demons are fears, negative thoughts, or beliefs that hamper your growth.

They push you to overthink and prevent you from succeeding.

Therefore, if you’re looking to get fitter and healthier, first learn to deal with your inner demons.

For example, if you cannot overcome your food cravings, don’t worry; make yourself mentally strong, and success will follow.

Just keep fighting with your negative thoughts and instill positivity to get the desired results.

Lesson 2: Understand the “Why” Behind Every Meal Plan and Workout

Sometimes, blindly following a meal plan or workout regime does not help.

It’s important to know why you have been recommended to follow a particular meal plan or workout schedule.

When you understand the why of things and the theory behind some of the advice, it makes all the decisions have much more meaning.

Lesson 3: Don’t Be Scared to Push Yourself

In most health and fitness journeys, there comes the point where you feel you’ve done enough.

You contemplate if you should proceed or quit.

However, in such cases, you must strive to become tougher.

There’s no limit to improving.

So keep going.

You have to increase your resistance. You have to increase your duration. You have to decrease your rest time to make your body adapt and keep changing.

Continue pushing to become tougher, fitter, and healthier.
